Although the Cal/OSHA COVID-19 nonemergency regulation has expired, the Jan. 9, 2024 state Public Health Officer Order remains in place as does the Jan. 10, 2025 CDPH Interim Work Exclusion Guidance for Healthcare Personnel with COVID-19, Influenza, and Other Acute Respiratory Viral Infections. Dental practices should continue to exclude employees with, or suspected of having, a respiratory viral infection.

Sept. 18, 2017: Employers must use revised I-9 form

Beginning Sept. 18, employers must use the revised I-9 form with a revision date of 07/17/17 N. From July 17–Sept. 17, they are permitted to use the previous form with a date of 11/14/16 N. The new version brings very subtle changes to the form’s instructions and a list of acceptable documents, which were created with the goal of making the form easier to navigate. Current storage and retention rules have not changed. Visit the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services website at uscis.gov/I-9.

September 19, 2020 - December 31, 2020 (unless FFCRA sunset extended) AB 1867 Overrides the FFCRA health care provider exemption.

The law includes language that any entity that employs health care providers or emergency responders that elect to exclude employees from emergency paid sick leave under the federal FFCRA health care provider exemption must provide the leave in California. As a best practice, all employers should comply with emergency paid sick leave under FFCRA.
