Use of Trigger Point Injections, Nerve Blocks and Botox in the Treatment of TMD

This course is designed for the provider with previous training in the diagnosis and management of orofacial pain and is familiar with the differential diagnoses of non-odontogenic orofacial pain conditions. The course includes a review of anatomy related to temporomandibular dysfunction as well as diagnostic criteria and injection techniques for different types of injections routinely performed in the orofacial pain practice.

Learning Topics
Review of pertinent anatomy for injection sites
Mechanisms for trigger point injections and nerve blocks
When Botox is appropriate for TMD treatment
Mechanisms for Botox’s use in treating TMD
Demonstration and videos of the different injections
Hands on injections with participants practicing on each other with faculty injecting trigger points and nerve blocks one side and participant injecting the other.*
* To fully participate in the hands-on portion, a valid CA license and proof of active liability insurance is required.
