Before renewing license, some California dentists must submit fingerprint to dental board

QUICK SUMMARY: California-licensed dentists may receive a notice from the dental board that asks them to submit their fingerprint in order to renew their license. These dentists have approximately 90 days before their license expires to submit a fingerprint. California-licensed dentists who do not have a fingerprint on record in the dental board’s section of the Department of Consumer Affairs’ online licensing and enforcement system BreEZe will be required to submit or resubmit their fingerprint before renewing their license.

The BreEZe system has been flagging licensee accounts for which a fingerprint record does not exist — either because the board never fingerprinted the licensee or because the licensee’s fingerprint record was not linked correctly to the licensee’s account in BreEZe. Fingerprints submitted to other governmental agencies are not shared with the board.

The dental board stated in a Feb. 5 email to subscribers that “licensees will receive a notice from the board approximately 90 days before their license expires.” The board stopped sending and accepting renewal applications by mail in July 2021.
