Local Wastewater Agencies

The following local agencies require dental offices to have wastewater discharge permits.  You can find more information on permit requirements at respective agency web sites.

Central Contra Costa Sanitary District
-- includes the cities of Alamo, Clyde, Danville, Lafayette, Martinez, Moraga, Orinda, Pacheco, Pleasant Hill, San Ramon, Walnut Creek
-- permits required in early 2007

City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works
-- includes the cities of Beverly Hills, Burbank, Culver City, El Segundo, Glendale, San Fernando, Santa Monica, and West Hollywood

City of Palo Alto 
--includes Mountain View, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, and East Palo Alto

East Bay Municipal Utility District
-- includes the cities of Alameda, Albany, Berkeley, El Cerrito, Emeryville, Kensington, Oakland, Piedmont,

San Francisco Public Utilities Commission 

San José/Santa Clara Water Pollution Control Plant
Treats wastewater from eight cities in the South Bay – San José, Santa Clara, Milpitas, Campbell, Cupertino, Los Gatos, Monte Sereno, Saratoga and adjacent unincorporated areas.  The proposed Dental Amalgam Program will affect dental practices in all these jurisdictions including San José.

Once the program is approved, the first permit application packets are planned to be mailed to dentists in July 2009.  The target is to have all dental practices compliant by December 2010.

Union Sanitary District 
-- includes the cities of Fremont, Newark, and Union City
-- self-certification required by November 1, 2006
